University of Illinois at Chicago Report
Independent Analysis of Field Retrofit of XDX® Technology
Following: Protocol # WAL5B22F Report prepared for: Independent National Chain Name withheld in accordance with understanding of Non-Disclosure 1 March 2006 Prepared by: Energy Resources Center 851 South Morgan Street Chicago, IL 60607-7054 Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering University of Illinois at Chicago 842 West Taylor Street Chicago, IL 60607-7022 SUMMARY: The goal was to demonstrate operation under all conditions to instill confidence in XDX® technologies used with XSTREAM technology, with regard to improved performance and reliability. The patented XSTREAM® technology from XDX® performed to expectation and is a desirable solution for the Commercial Refrigeration Equipment. The complete installation time for the retrofitted technology, including pump-down, piping, evacuation, and adjustment was three and one half hours, or 1.75 hours per evaporator. Substantial energy and performance benefits are experienced. In the segment of totalized data collection, in summary†: • Baseline average daily electricity usage of 94.19 kWh is 18.39 % higher than with operation with XDX® which had a daily average of 79.56 kWh. • Baseline average demand of 4.87 kW is 50.77 % higher than operation with XDX® which had a kW average of 3.23 kW. • Baseline average Maximum kW of 8.49 is 35.84 % higher than with XDX® which had an average Maximum kW of 6.25. • Power factor, kVA and amperage were also consistently lower with the XDX® operation. • Compressor protection has improved through more stable superheat. • Defrost was reduced from three (3) defrosts daily to one (1) defrost daily. Annualized savings of average maximum kW at 0.49 to 2.82 kW reduction ($10 per kW per month at twelve months) $58.80 to $338.40 Annualized savings of average kWh at 9.57 to 19.98 kWh reduction per day (8 cents per kWh and 12 cents per kWh) $279.44 to $583.42 Send for a copy of the report: |
