XDX Innovative Refrigeration, Chicago, Illinois – Energy and Food Quality

Chicago, Illinois -: The City of Chicago has opened a new produce market for the cities long time produce wholesalers. XDX Innovative Refrigeration Products have been installed and have demonstrated significant benefits in the areas concerning product quality, system performance and energy reduction. XDX INC. and the Arlington Heights based company’s patented X-STREAM® Technology has been utilized to provide innovative industry solutions for energy reduction and food-storage temperature improvement in this new facility.

XDX Innovative Refrigeration

XDX INC has patented revolutionary X-STREAM® and A.R.M.E.D. ® technologies. XDX® Innovative Refrigeration, as has been recently been reported in Crain’s Chicago Business, is a growing refrigeration innovator and has seen its equipment installed by the equipment manufacturer for the new Chicago Produce Market as the city moved many of its wholesalers from the antiquated South Water site.

More Consistent Temperatures Aid in Product Quality - XDX Innovative Refrigeration

Evaporators in the industry are fed with refrigerant that does not maximize the transfer of heat. Additionally, frost builds heavily on portions of the evaporator coils, further reducing the transfer of heat, and reducing the air flow by restricting the air passage through the evaporator coil. A refrigeration system equipped with X-STREAM® and A.R.M.E.D. ® technologies from XDX® operates with better transfer of heat than a system using a conventional approach to feeding refrigerant through the direct–expansion (DX) evaporator coil. The process uses a special valve to allow a thin coating of refrigerant to line the entire inside of the evaporator tubing, resulting in rapid removal of heat from the product or conditioned space. Temperatures improve, the system runs less, and the coil frosts less. This reduces energy and improves the condition of the product.

The process is applicable in any Freon/Refrigerant-based system, from air-conditioning to the ultra-low temperature requirements of blood plasma storage, from supermarkets to restaurants and industrial processing. This system provides significant performance improvements while saving energy dollars. Independent Laboratories have tested and do***ented 18% to 24% energy savings and up to 66% extension to shelf life of perishable product. The company openly offers a growing number of reports and testimonials that support these figures.

Controlling temperatures for produce storage is important, because the warming storage area temperatures during frequent defrost cycles allow for the moisture to be drawn out of the product since the warmer air can hold more moisture. The refrigerated product is a primary source of that moisture. Product weight, produce appearance and color are all affected by the drying of produce. “X-STREAM® Technology from XDX offers a reduction in defrost cycles through more efficient use of the refrigerant in the evaporator coils,” stated Roger Wightman, Director of Engineering for the manufacturer. “We need to help businesses understand that our system can save more money than just the savings through energy reduction.”

Frank Laraia, the company’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, concluded the discussion by pointing out the customer-based focus of XDX. “We support our product and our customers like few manufacturers ever have. We realize that comfort with a new technology is achieved through customer support. Once the customers understand the simplicity of our product and the potential benefits they are willing to give it a try. The results speak for themselves.”

XDX Innovative Refrigeration, in business since January of 1999, is located in Chicago’s Northwest suburb of Arlington Heights, Illinois.

In development of a growing product line that includes X-STREAM® and A.R.M.E.D.® technologies, XDX plans to roll out two new products this year. With efforts related to energy reduction through maximization of heat transfer in advanced-study of thermodynamics, XDX focuses on industry education and customer support through informative seminars, and supports industry organizations such as NRA, ASHRAE, IIAR, RSES, and IIR (Institut International Du Froid). XDX was a participant in the maiden United States Food and Agribusiness Exhibition 2002, PABEXPO, in Havana, Cuba where XDX INC was present to provide their industry solutions for energy reduction and food and medical-storage temperature improvement in this new marketplace.

Summary: XDX is a company to watch. Temperature reduction with energy savings. Innovation.
